I believe Texas should pass a law that would stop people from using their cell phones while driving and should only be used with a hands free device. Cell phone distractions causes 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the United States every year. now by having hands free devices i believe we could at least cut that number in half. Now the only state i know that has a like this is California, and i believe Texas should be part of that law to, by doing this drivers will be more aware of their surroundings and also reducing traffic congestion's
Now i know some people might not agree with this and some of their excuses are that they cant afford a bluetooth and etc. but a lot of these cell phones come with a headset when you buy the phone and there also only like $12 for a wired one. But i hope the Texas government considers in passing a law like this.
I also think that teen drivers are another reason for deaths on the road, they should make the teens under the age of 18 harder for them to receive there licences.
But in conclusion the Texas government should try to pass a law for the cell phones and should make it a priority for the safety of other drivers.

In the latest blog from Our Texas Government, the author writes about the alternative of talking on the cell phone and driving. The author suggest we use things such as hands free device, but for those that can't afford a bluetooth, their cell phones already comes with a headset when you buy your phones. I totally agree with the author on this one because there are so many people out there that are getting killed out there because of distractions such as talking or even texting while driving. Hopefully the Texas Legislature will do something about this and make it safe for the other drivers to be out on the road.
ReplyDeleteToday I read a blog post from my colleague, Zack, who believes that Texas should outlaw the use of cell phones while driving a motor vehicle without the use of a headset. I have to respectfully disagree with him on the issue of making it illegal to use a cell phone while driving without a headset. The reason I disagree with him on this is for one, it has already been proven that the use of cell phone headsets does not aid road safety. Also secondly this is just gives police one more reason to pull us over, and write us tickets for. As far as making it harder for teen drivers to achieve a drivers license I do somewhat agree with this part of your blog. I feel like the “test”, not only for teen drivers, but for all drivers should be harder to pass. It is way too easy to achieve a driver’s license in the state of Texas, I am sure you have seen what I am talking about out there on the roads. Overall this was a nice post, but I simply have to disagree with you when it comes to laws against using your cell phone without a headset while driving.
